Hydroid is now a proud part of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Together we offer the full range of Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) from small class to extra-large class.
We design and manufacture state-of-the-art solutions for use in a number of applications including marine research, commercial and defense.
Ocean exploration has traditionally been dominated by surface ship technology. Hydroid’s REMUS UUVs are changing that.
Our UUVs can dive to depths of 6,000 meters, explore shallow waters and hover in hazardous areas where navigation is difficult. These vehicles reduce the high cost of ocean exploration and sampling, while increasing the availability of scientific marine data.
Our UUVs have been involved with undersea mine countermeasures that have helped save lives by eliminating human divers from mine fields and have helped solve plane and ship disaster mysteries, including locating Air France Flight 447 wreckage and generating 3D mapping of the Titanic. Our vehicles offer scientists a new view on pressing global issues including climate change, the world’s declining fish population and environmental disasters.
Developed by a veteran team of engineers, our company’s products and solutions provide a safe and reliable answer to the challenges that have hampered ocean exploration and security. We offer world-class engineering design and expert manufacturing in our new, state-of-the-art production facility. Hydroid is dedicated to revolutionizing marine robotics technology as well as advancing oceanography and undersea engineering.
Hydroid was founded in 2001 by the inventors of the REMUS UUV to allow this remarkable technology to reach a wider market and to provide for continuous product development. REMUS is the product of over 15 years of cutting-edge research and development, which has culminated in the world's most capable and reliable compact UUV.
Hydroid has grown at an amazing rate, and now boasts over 500 AUV system sales to a variety of domestic and international customers. To support this growth, Hydroid now has a staff of over 200 full and part-time employees that continuously strive for the highest level of product quality and support. This team is enhanced by the organization's growing representative network, which provides local sales and support in nearly 30 nations around the globe.
Hydroid is located in a state-of-the-art facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts. This facility has been uniquely designed to support Hydroid's growing product offerings.
Since its inception, Hydroid has delivered a continuous stream of products through a highly efficient and well organized manufacturing system, which allows for volume production of REMUS vehicles, tracking transponders and other system components. The result is a highly repeatable system that produces quality products in a timely and efficient manner. Hydroid's products are backed by the organization's skilled customer service staff, which provides on-site training, system commissioning and continuous product service and support.
