(April 28, 2005 – Pocasset,
MA) Hydroid Inc. announced the addition of several
new custom sensors and modular configurations for the
REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle. REMUS systems are
now being delivered with a multitude of new system capabilities
and modular conveniences.
Many of these system enhancements
have been a result of funding support from the U.S.
Office of Naval Research. Kevin McCarthy, Hydroid’s
vice president of marketing stated that “With
funding support from ONR, Hydroid’s engineering
team has successfully integrated a range of new sensor
technologies and enhanced capabilities into the REMUS
system. In addition to the traditional REMUS configuration,
many of the recent systems have been modular in design
and accept a wide range of customer selected sensors.”
McCarthy continued, “The systems
presently being produced by Hydroid retain the same
field proven reliability, while offering our customers
the capability of choosing sensor technologies and system
configurations designed to meet their unique operational
requirements.”

- Iridium Communications
- Acoustic Imaging Systems
Hydroid Inc. holds the exclusive
license from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
for the manufacture and further development of the REMUS
Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) technology.
