(April 29, 2005 – Pocasset,
MA) Hydroid Inc. announced today that they have
recently received an order from the Belgian Defense
for a REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) system.
Representatives from the Belgian Defense participated
in REMUS trials in the Port of Rotterdam during 2004,
and decided shortly after the successful trials to procure
a system for evaluation.
The system that will be delivered
to the Belgian Defense is a modular REMUS design, capable
of incorporating a range of user selectable sensors,
including a number of state of the art acoustic imaging
systems.
Through funding support from the U.S.
Office of Naval Research (ONR), Hydroid has re-designed
the basic REMUS system to be highly modular and capable
of adding a wide range of sophisticated sensor technologies.
The system designed for the Belgian
Defense will be delivered later in 2005.
Hydroid Inc. holds the exclusive license from the Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institution for the manufacture and
further development of the REMUS Autonomous Underwater
Vehicle (AUV) technology.
